The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 25 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999(1), hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Greater London Authority (Limitation of Salaries) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 8th May 2000.
2. For the purposes of this Order “relevant remuneration” means a salary payable—
(a)pursuant to a resolution (or combination of resolutions) of either House of Parliament relating to the remuneration of members of that House; or
(b)under section 1 of the European Parliament (Pay and Pensions) Act 1979(2) (remuneration of MEPs).
3. If relevant remuneration is payable to a person who is the Mayor or an Assembly member, the amount of any salary which would, but for the provisions of this Order, be payable to that person under section 24 of the Greater London Authority Act 1999 shall be reduced to two thirds of what it would otherwise be.

This Order reduces by one third the salaries otherwise payable to the Mayor of London or Assembly members of the Greater London Authority, if a salary is also payable to them by virtue of membership of either House of Parliament or of the European Parliament.
