Being of the opinion that the Teacher Training Agency may, having regard to their general objectives, appropriately discharge the additional function hereby conferred and having carried out such consultation as appears to him to be appropriate pursuant to section 16(3) of the Education Act 1994(1), the Secretary of State for Education and Employment, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 16(1) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order—
1. This Order may be cited as the Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) Order 2000 and shall come into force on 1st May 2000.
2. The Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) Order 1998(2) is hereby revoked.
3. There is hereby conferred on the Teacher Training Agency the additional function of arranging the assessment of candidates undertaking national tests for teacher training candidates in literacy, numeracy and information and communications technology.

This Order confers on the Teaching Training Agency, established under section 1 of the Education Act 1994, the additional function of arranging the assessment of candidates for national tests for teacher training candidates in literacy, numeracy and information and communications technology.
Numeracy tests will be administered to teachers undertaking induction under the Education (Induction Arrangements for School Teachers) (England) Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/1065) who qualify on or after 1st May 2000 and before 1st May 2001. Teachers qualifying on or after 1st May 2001 will need to have passed all three tests.
This Order also revokes the Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) Order 1998 (S.I. 1998/1194).
1994 c. 30. By virtue of section 1(3) of that Act and article 2 of and Schedule 1 to the National Assembly for Wales (Transfer of Functions) Order 1999 (S.I. 1999/672), the Teacher Training Agency shall not do anything in relation to Wales, or institutions or students in Wales, except at the request of the National Assembly for Wales.
