The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis pursuant to section 7(6) of that Act(2), hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the A4 Trunk Road (Bath Road and North Hatton Road, Hillingdon) (Left Turn Lane) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 7th February 1999.

2.  In this Order:

“the trunk road” means that length of the A4 Trunk Road in the London Borough of Hillingdon known as Bath Road;

“North Hatton Road” means the road of that name in the London Borough of Hillingdon;

“bus” means a “public service” vehicle as defined in section 1 of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981(3);

“bicycle” means a bicycle not being a motor vehicle; and

“taxi” has the meaning given in regulation 4 of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 1994(4).

3.  Save as provided in article 4 below, no person shall cause or permit any vehicle proceeding in the nearside lane of the westbound carriageway of the trunk road, between a point 49 metres east of the eastern kerbline of the off slip road at North Hatton Road and the western kerbline of that off slip road, from proceeding in any direction other than southbound–

4.  Nothing in article 3 above shall apply to:–

(a)buses, taxis or bicycles;

(b)any vehicle being used for Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance purposes; and

(c)anything done at the direction or with the permission of a constable in uniform or a traffic warden.
