The SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, TRANSPORT AND THE REGIONS makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by Sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf:—

1.  This Order may be cited as the A1 Trunk Road (Ferrybridge to Selby Fork Junction) (Detrunking) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 26th August 1999.

2.  In this Order—

(i)“classified road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is not a principal road for the purposes of enactments or instruments which refer to highways classified as principle roads but is a classified road for the purpose of every enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State and which does not specifically refer to their classification as principal roads;

(ii)“the Motorway and connecting roads” means the special roads which the Secretary of State is authorised to provide by the A1 Motorway (Ferrybridge to Hook Moor Section and Connecting Roads) Scheme 1999(3);

(iii)“the A1” means the A1 Trunk Road

(iv)“the plan” means the plan in the folio numbered HA 10 YHCPD 72 marked “The A1 Trunk Road (Ferrybridge to Selby Fork Junction) (Detrunking) Order 1999,” signed by authority of the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and deposited at the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions, Great Minster House, 76 Marsham Street, London SW1P 4DR.

3.  The lengths of the A1 described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad hatching on the plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road on the date on which the Secretary of State notifies Leeds City Council, Wakefield Metropolitan District Council and North Yorkshire County Council that the motorway and connecting roads are open for traffic.

THE SCHEDULELENGTH OF TRUNK ROAD CEASING TO BE A TRUNK ROAD

1.  That length of the A1 trunk road from a point 360 metres north of the M62 motorway bridge over the A1 trunk road (marked “A” on the deposited plan) to a point 400 metres south of the centre of Selby Fork Junction (marked “B” on the deposited plan) a distance of 7.58 kilometres.

2.  That length of the A1 trunk road from a point 100 metres north of the A63 trunk road bridge over the A1 trunk road (marked “C” on the deposited plan) north westwards for a distance of 657 metres to a point (marked “D” on the deposited plan).

By virtue ofThe Secretary of State for The Environment, Transport and the Regions Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/2971), all functions of the Secretary of State for Transport were transferred to the Secretary of State for The Environment, Transport and the Regions with effect from 26 January 1998.
