These Regulations provide for the constitution of the General Teaching Council for Wales. The Council will consist of twelve elected teacher members, nine members appointed by the Secretary of State from nominees of organisations set out in the Schedule and four members appointed by the Secretary of State.
The Regulations make provision for the initial elections of elected members to be organised in accordance with a scheme made by the Secretary of State. Subsequent elections will be organised by the Council.
The Regulations also make provision for the appointment of the first Chairman and subsequent election of a Chairman by the Council, the vacation of office by members and by the Chairman in certain circumstances, and the filling of such vacancies.
