Articles 4 to 7 of this Order amend the European Parliamentary Elections (Welsh Forms) Order 1989 (“the 1989 Order”) to take account of the replacement of the European Parliamentary Elections Regulations 1986 (S.I. 1986/2209) by the European Parliamentary Elections Regulations 1999 and the changes made by the latter Regulations. Those Regulations give effect to the regional list system of election for European Parliamentary elections introduced by the European Parliamentary Elections Act 1999 (c. 1).
Schedule 1 to the 1989 Order (which is amended by article 6 of this Order) sets out forms in English and Welsh to replace in Wales the forms which would otherwise be used. Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order (which is amended by article 7 of this Order) sets out the Welsh version of certain forms of words.
Article 3 of this Order prescribes a version in English and Welsh of words (other than the names of the parties or candidates standing for election) which appear on the ballot paper at a European Parliamentary election in Wales.
