The Secretary of State, having consulted with the Natural Environment Research Council in accordance with section 3(1) of the Conservation of Seals Act 1970(1), in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 3(1) and 14(2) of that Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement

1.  This Order may be cited as the Conservation of Seals (Common Seals) (Shetland Islands Area) Order 1991 Revocation Order 1998 and shall come into force on 29th April 1998.

Revocation

2.  The Conservation of Seals (Common Seals) (Shetland Islands Area) Order 1991(2) is hereby revoked.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order revokes the Conservation of Seals (Common Seals) (Shetland Islands Area) Order 1991 which prohibited the wilful killing, injuring or taking of common seals (Phoca vitulina) in the Shetland Islands Area within the seaward limits of the territorial waters adjacent thereto.
