The Disability Discrimination (Repeal of section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944) Order 1998

Coming into force

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 60(6)(b) of the Disability Discrimination Act 19951 hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement1

This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination (Repeal of section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st April 1998.

Repeal2

Section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 19442 are hereby repealed.

This Order, made under section 60(6) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, provides for the repeal of section 17 of, and Schedule 2 to, the Disabled Persons (Employment) Act, 1944. Section 17 and Schedule 2 provided for the establishment of a national advisory council and district advisory committees.

The council has lately been known as the National Advisory Council on Employment of People with Disabilities (NACEPD) and the committees have lately been known as Committees for the Employment of People with Disabilities (CEPDs).

Under the terms of the Disability Discrimination (Abolition of District Advisory Committees) Order 1997 (S.I.1997/536) the Secretary of State’s duty to establish district advisory committees ceased to have effect on 31st March 1997, subject to saving provisions.
