The Lancaster City Council (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) acting on behalf of the Lancashire County Council, the local highway authority, pursuant to an agreement made under Section 101(1)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, makes this Scheme in exercise of powers contained in Section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980 and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf:
1. The Council is hereby authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the River Lune at Lancaster in the district of Lancashire, the bridge (in this Scheme called “the River Lune Millennium Bridge”) specified in the Schedule to this Scheme as part of the new River Lune Millennium Park wherein a new cycle track will be constructed connecting the existing Morecambe/Lancaster cycle track to St. Georges Quay and the existing permissive cycleway on the former railway viaduct all in the said district of Lancaster.
2. This Scheme may be cited as the Lancaster City Council (The River Lune Millennium Bridge) Scheme 1998.
