Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order brings into force on 1st December 1998 the following provisions of the Government of Wales Act 1998–

  • Parts I and II.

  • Part III so far as commencement has not already been provided for.

  • Part IV except sections 104 and 105.

  • Part V except sections 107, 111, 112, 116 to 118 and 125.

  • Part VI so far as commencement has not already been provided for.

Provision for the commencement of the following provisions of the Act has previously been made by the Government of Wales Act 1998 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1998 (S.I. 1998/2244) as follows–

  • 2nd September 1998–sections 130(4) and (5), 132(1) and (6), 133(3) and (4), 136(4) and (5), 138(1) and (6), 139(3) and (4), 140(5), and (6), 142(1), (7) and (8), 143(3) and (4), 150 and Schedule 18 Part VII (including section 152 so far as relating thereto).

  • 1st October 1998–sections 126–129, 130(1) to (3), 131, 132(2) to (5) and (7), 133(1) and (2), 134, 135, 136(1) to (3), 137, 138(2) to (5) and (7), 139(1) and (2), Schedules 13 to 15 and Schedule 18 Parts III to V (including section 152 so far as relating thereto).

  • 1st November 1998–sections 140(1) to (4), 141, 142(2) to (6), 143(1) and (2), Schedule 16 and Schedule 18 Part VI (including section 152 so far as relating thereto).
