The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Scotland and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 1 and 8(1) of the Animal Health Act 1981(1), and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order:
1. This Order may be cited as the Horse Passports (Amendment) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 19th October 1998.
2. In article 9 of the Horse Passports Order 1997(2) after “The keeper of a horse” there shall be inserted the words “born on or after 1st January 1998”.

This Order amends article 9 of the Horse Passports Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/2789) (movement of a horse) so that it only applies in relation to horses born on or after 1st January 1998. This amendment implements article 2 of Commission Decision 93/623/EEC establishing the identification document (passport) accompanying registered equidae (OJ No. L298, 3.12.93, p.45).
