Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Housing (Right To Acquire) (Discount) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 9th September 1998.

(2) In this Order “area” means a “county” or “district” as defined by section 270 of the Local Government Act 1972(1), a London borough or the City of London.

Amounts of Discount

2.  The following amounts of discount are specified for the purpose of section 17(1)(a) of the Housing Act 1996 (the right to acquire)—

(a)£16,000 where a dwelling is in one of the areas specified in Schedule 1 to this Order;

(b)£13,500 where a dwelling is in one of the areas specified in Schedule 2 to this Order;

(c)£11,000 where a dwelling is in one of the areas specified in Schedule 3 to this Order;

(d)£10,000 where a dwelling is in one of the areas specified in Schedule 4 to this Order; and

(e)£9,000 where a dwelling is in one of the areas specified in Schedule 5 to this Order.

Revocation

3.  The Housing (Right to Acquire) (Discount) Order 1997(2) is hereby revoked.

Application

4.  Articles 1 to 3 of this Order do not apply in a case where a notice has been served claiming to exercise the right to acquire before this Order comes into force.
