In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 7(9) of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act (Amendment to Schedule 2) Order 1998.

(2) This Order shall come into force on 1st January 1999.

(3) This Order does not extend to Northern Ireland.

2.  At the end of Schedule 2 to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (animals to be obtained only from designated breeding or supplying establishments)(2), there shall be added—

Ferret

Gerbil

Pig, if genetically modified

Sheep, if genetically modified.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Article 2 of this Order adds references to ferrets and gerbils and to pigs and sheep, if genetically modified, to the list of animals in Schedule 2 to the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986. That Schedule lists animals which must be obtained from designated breeding or supplying establishments.
