1.  This Order may be cited as the A3 Trunk Road (Kingston Upon Thames, Merton and Elmbridge) (50 m.p.h. Speed Limit) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st June 1998.

2.  In this Order—

“the trunk road” means the London—Portsmouth Trunk Road (A3);

“the main route” means that length of the main south-westbound carriageway of the trunk road between a point 118 metres south of the southern kerbline of the southern entrance to the service road to Vale Crescent and a point 210 metres west of the southern kerbline of its junction with Kingston By Pass Road (A309), and that length of the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road in the District of Elmbridge between a point 129 metres north of the southern boundary of Lovelace Primary School and a point 118 metres south of the southern kerbline of the southern entrance to the service road to Vale Crescent;

“Bushey Road” means the road of that name in the London Borough of Merton;

“Hook Road”, “Malden Road” and “Vale Crescent” mean the roads of those names in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames;

“Kingston By Pass Road (A309)” means the road of that name in the District of Elmbridge;

“Beverley Way slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the west of the main route, which links the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road with Bushey Road, between the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road and a point 5 metres north of the accessway leading to Blagdon House;

“Malden Road north-eastbound access slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the east of Malden Road which links Malden Road with the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road;

“Malden Road north-eastbound exit slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the west of Malden Road which links the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road with Malden Road;

“Malden Road south-westbound access slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the west of Malden Road which links Malden Road with the main south-westbound carriageway of the trunk road;

“Malden Road south-westbound exit slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the east of Malden Road which links the main south-westbound carriageway of the trunk road with Malden Road; and

“Hook Road north-eastbound access slip road” means that length of the trunk road lying to the east of Hook Road which links Hook Road with the main north-eastbound carriageway of the trunk road.

3.  No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 50 miles per hour on any of the lengths of road specified in the Schedule to this Order.
