1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Saint Helena) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 20th May 1998.
2. Sections 152 to 170(1) and 172 to 181 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Merchant Shipping Act 1995, subject to the exceptions, adaptations and modifications specified in the Schedule to this Order, shall extend to Saint Helena, and any instrument made, or to be made, under section 152(2), 157(2), 172(2) or 176(5) shall also extend to Saint Helena.
3.—(1) In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires:
(a)any reference to any enactment of the United Kingdom shall be construed as a reference to that enactment as applying or extending to Saint Helena;
(b)“Saint Helena” means Saint Helena and its Dependencies.
4. The following Orders, to the extent that they apply to Saint Helena, are hereby revoked—
(a)The Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Overseas Territories) Order 1975(2);
(b)The Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment) Order 1981(3);
(c)The Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment No. 2) Order 1981(4); and
(d)The Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment) Order 1984(5).
