Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Academic Awards and Distinctions (Queen Margaret College) (Scotland) Order of Council 1993 specified Queen Margaret College as competent to grant degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards or distinctions with the specific exception of awards granted in respect of completion of a programme of supervised research. This Order revokes that earlier Order, and gives the College power to grant all degrees, diplomas, certificates and other academic awards and distinctions that may be granted by virtue of section 48(2) and (3) of the Further and Higher Education (Scotland) Act 1992. The power conferred by this Order applies in respect of courses of study or programmes of research completed on or after 1st June 1998.

Article 4 of this Order contains a transitional provision. This enables the College to grant such degrees, diplomas, certificates or other academic awards and distinctions as it had power to grant under the 1993 Order of Council in respect of courses completed before 1st June 1998 but for which the appropriate award has not, by then, been made.
