Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Under this Order, section 3 of the Northern Ireland (Entry to Negotiations, etc) Act 1996 ceases to have effect on 25th April 1998. Section 3 makes provision for a Forum constituted by delegates returned in accordance with Schedule 1 to the Act for the discussion of issues relevant to promoting dialogue and understanding within Northern Ireland.

Section 3 ceased to have effect on 22nd March 1997 pursuant to the Northern Ireland (Entry to Negotiations, etc) Act 1996 (Cessation of Section 3) Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/1046). It was brought into force again on 3rd June 1997 by the Northern Ireland (Entry to Negotiations, etc) Act 1996 (Revival of Section 3) Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/1410) and, pursuant to that Order would (but for this Order), have remained in force until the end of May 1998.

This Order revokes the Northern Ireland (Entry to Negotiations, etc) Act 1996 (Revival of Section 3) Order 1997.
