Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

Section 65(3A) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 prohibits a local highway authority in England or Wales from making a charge for permission to erect a temporary traffic sign, if the sign is placed by a body that is prescribed for the purpose as being a body appearing to the Secretary of State to be representative of the interests of road users or any class of road users. These Regulations prescribe the Automobile Association, the Cyclists' Touring Club and the Royal Automobile Club for this purpose.
