Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the Combined Probation Areas Order 1986 (S.I. 1986/1713), so as to reduce the number of justices on the committee for the Bedfordshire Area from 14 to 8. The petty sessional divisions of Ampthill and Leighton Buzzard were formerly represented by 1 justice each. The petty sessional divisions of Biggleswade and Dunstable were represented by 2 justices and those of Bedford and Luton by 4 justices each.

The Order also provides (pursuant to paragraph 8 of Schedule 1 to the 1993 Act), for the co-option of a member from each of Bedfordshire County and Luton Borough Councils to the committee.
