Status:

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend regulation 3 of the Animal By-Products (Identification) Regulations 1995. The amendment adds to the definition of animal by-product to which the sterilisation and staining requirements of those Regulations apply. The definition now includes carcases or parts of carcases derived from bovine animals which are slaughtered for human consumption and were more than two years and six months old at the time of slaughter, but which were not slaughtered under the Beef Assurance Scheme or any other scheme which provides an exception to the prohibition of sale of meat from older bovine animals.
