The British Nationality (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1997

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 41(2) of the British Nationality Act 1981(1), and section 2(3) of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1997(2), hereby makes, with the consent of the Treasury, the following Regulations:

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the British Nationality (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall come into force on 12th June 1997.

2.  The British Nationality (Fees) Regulations 1996(3) shall be amended as follows:

(a)in regulation 2(1) there shall be added, at the end, “or, as the case may be, under the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1997”;

(b)in regulation 3(1) after “below”, there shall be inserted “or where the Secretary of State otherwise directs,”;

(c)in the Schedule—

(i)in the entry numbered 5 for “or any of the former nationality Acts” there shall be substituted “, any of the former nationality Acts or the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1997”, and

(ii)after the entry numbered 6 there shall be added—

7.  Application for registration as a citizen under section 1 of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1997.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the British Nationality (Fees) Regulations 1996 to prescribe a fee of £250 for applications for British citizenship made under section 1 of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1997.
