The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the Secretary of State for Health and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly, in relation to England and Wales, and the Secretary of State for Scotland in relation to Scotland, in exercise of the powers conferred on them by sections 16(1)(a), (b) and (f), 17(1) and 48(1) of the Food Safety Act 1990(1) and of all other powers enabling them in that behalf, after consultation in accordance with section 48(4) of the said Act with such organisations as appear to them to be representative of interests likely to be substantially affected by the Regulations, hereby make the following Regulations:

Title and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Animals, Meat and Meat Products (Examination for Residues and Maximum Residue Limits) (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 14th March 1996.

Amendment of the 1991 Regulations

2.  In the Animals, Meat and Meat Products (Examination for Residues and Maximum Residue Limits) Regulations 1991(2), in Schedule 1 (the Council Regulation), for items (a), (b), (c), (d), (e), (f), (g) and (h) there shall be substituted the following items—

(a)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2701/94 OJ No. L287, 8.11.94, p.7.

(b)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 2703/94 OJ No. L287, 8.11.94, p.19.

(c)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 3059/94 OJ No. L323, 16.12.94, p.15.

(d)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1102/95 OJ No. L110, 17.5.95, p.9.

(e)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1441/95 OJ No. L143, 27.6.95, p.22.

(f)Commission Regulation (EC) No. 1442/95 OJ No. L143, 27.6.95, p.26..

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations, which apply to Great Britain, come into force on 14th March 1996.

The Regulations further amend the Animals, Meat and Meat Products (Examination for Residues and Maximum Residue Limits) Regulations 1991 by updating the amendments made to Council Regulation (EEC) No. 2377/90, as listed in Schedule 1 to the 1991 Regulations, so as to take account of Commission Regulations (EC) Nos. 2701/94 (which consolidated, with corrections, all previously listed amending Regulations), 2703/94, 3059/94, 1102/95, 1441/95 and 1442/95 (regulation 2).
