In exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 18 and 24(2) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976(1), the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 27th January 1997.

(2) This Order shall not extend to Scotland.

2.  In section 16(3) of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976 (conditions on which the provision of amusements is permitted in certain commercial entertainments) paragraph (c) shall have effect as if, for the sum specified in that paragraph, there were substituted the sum of £5.

3.  In article 2 of the Amusements with Prizes (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 1984(2) —

  • (a)

    for the words “Paragraphs (a) and (c)” there shall be substituted the words “Paragraph (a)”;

    (b)

    in paragraph (a) the words “in paragraph (a),” shall be omitted; and

    (c)

    paragraph (c) shall be omitted.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, made under section 18 of the Lotteries and Amusements Act 1976, raises the limit on money prizes for amusements governed by section 16 of that Act (amusements with prizes at certain commercial entertainments) from 30p to £5.
