The Registration of Marriages (Amendment) Regulations 1996

The Registrar General, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 31(5), 32(4) and 74(b) of the Marriage Act 1949(1) as extended by section 26(3) of the Welsh Language Act 1993(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, with the approval of the Chancellor of the Exchequer(3), hereby makes the following Regulations—

The approval of the Chancellor of the Exchequer is required by section 74 of the Marriage Act 1949 and section 20 of the Registration Service Act 1953, as amended by article 5(1) and paragraphs 11 and 13 of Schedule 2 to the Transfer of Functions (Registration and Statistics) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/273).
