(This note is not part of the Order)
This Order revokes the Beef (Emergency Control) Order 1996, as amended, which prohibited the sale for human consumption of meat from any bovine animal slaughtered after 28th March 1996 that had reached that stage of maturity where it showed signs of more than one pair of permanent incisors.
The Order, which by its very nature was a temporary measure, is replaced by measures contained in the Fresh Meat (Beef Controls) Regulations 1996 which come into force at the same time as this Order.
