The Registrar General in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 20(a) of the Registration Service Act 19531 and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, with the approval of the Chancellor of the Exchequer2 hereby makes the following Regulations —

Citation and commencement1

These Regulations may be cited as the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Amendment) Regulations 1996 and shall come into force on 1st August 1996.

Amendment of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 19682

Paragraph (1) of regulation 10 of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 19683 (transaction of private business by registration officers) is hereby revoked.

These Regulations revoke regulation 10(1) of the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages Regulations 1968, which prohibits registration officers from transacting, or furthering the transaction of commercial activities.
