These Regulations make amendments to the Social Security (Claims and Payments) Regulations 1987 which are consequential on the coming into force of the Jobseekers Act 1995 which, inter alia, replaces unemployment benefit and income support for those available for and actively seeking employment with a new benefit called jobseeker’s allowance. They are made within the period of 6 months of the date of coming into force of provisions in that Act and accordingly, by virtue of section 173(5) of the Social Security Administration Act 1992, they are exempt from the requirement of section 172 of that Act to refer proposals to make the Regulations to the Social Security Advisory Committee, and no such reference has been made.
