SCHEDULE 6DEFINITIONS OF EXPRESSIONS USED IN SCHEDULE 1

PART I

References to Community instruments

1.—(1) The Directives referred to in these regulations are set out in Part II of this Schedule; those marked with a “asterisk” are Commission Directives, while those marked with a “dagger mark” are Directives of the European Parliament and the Council. The other Directives are Council Directives.

(2) A reference to a Directive shown in an item in column 2 of Part II of this Schedule as last amended by a Directive show in column 3 of that item (for example, “Directive 70/157/EEC as last amended by Directive 92/97/EEC”) shall be read as follows.

(3) The reference shall be read as the Directive shown in column 2 of that item as amended by the Directives shown in column 3 of that item down as far as (and including) the Directive referred to as the last amending Directive.

2.  A reference in Schedule 1 to the expression shown in column 1 of Part III of this Schedule shall be read as a reference to the first Council Regulation shown in column 2, as amended by the other Council Regulations, details of which are shown in columns 3 and 4.

Reference to ECE Regulations

3.—(1) A reference in Schedule 1 to an ECE Regulation followed by a number which is not itself followed by a full stop and two digits (for example “ECE Regulation 8”) shall be read as a reference to the ECE Regulation of that number.

(2) A reference in Schedule 1 to an ECE Regulation followed by a number which is itself followed by a full stop and two digits (for example “ECE Regulation 8.04”) shall be read as a reference to the ECE Regulation of that number with the amendments in force on the date shown against the number in column (3) of Part IV of this Schedule.

Other expressions

4.  In Schedule 1—

“G.B. Regs” is an abbreviation for the Great Britain Regulations as defined in regulation 3; and

“G.B. Regs for Goods Vehicles” is an abbreviation for the Great Britain Regulations for Goods Vehicles as defined in regulation 3.
