The Registrar General in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 5, 9(5), 10(1), 10A(1), 11(1)(b) and 39 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953(1) as extended by section 26(3) of the Welsh Language Act 1993(2) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, with the approval(3) of the Secretary of State for Wales(4), hereby makes the following Regulations—
1953 c. 20. See section 41 for definitions of “the Minister” and “prescribed”. Sections 1(1) and 5 were amended by the Children Act 1975 (c. 72), section 108(1) and Schedule 3, paragraph 13(1); section 5 was also amended by the Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages (Fees) Order 1968 (S.I.1968/1242), article 4(1), Schedule 2; section 9(5) was added by the Children Act 1975 section 93(3); sections 10 and 10A were substituted by the Family Law Reform Act 1987 (c. 42), section 24 and 25 respectively and were further amended by the Children Act 1989 (c. 41), section 108(4) and paragraph 6 of schedule 12 (see S.I. 1991/828).
The approval of the Minister is required by virtue of section 39 of the Births and Deaths Registration Act 1953.
“Secretary of State” was substituted for “Minister of Health” in section 41 by the Secretary of State for Social Services Order 1968 (S.I. 1968/1699), article 5(4)(b).
