The Local Government Act 1988 (Sports and Leisure Management, Cleaning of Buildings and Repair and Maintenance of Vehicles) (Exemption) Order 1995

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

Under Part I of the Local Government Act 1988 (competition), work falling within certain defined activities may be carried out by local authorities only if particular conditions are fulfilled.

This Order exempts from the requirements of Part I—

(i) the management of sports and leisure facilities by the Peterborough City Council so long as it is undertaken at the Lido, Bishops Road, before 1st April 1997 (article 2);

(ii) the management of sports and leisure facilities by the Croydon London Borough Council so long at it is undertaken at the Water Palace, Purley Way, before 1st September 1996 (article 2);

(iii) the management of sports and leisure facilities by the Tower Hamlets London Borough Council so long as it is undertaken at York Hall, Old Ford Road, during the period beginning on 1st January 1996 and ending with 31st December 1996 and at the Mile End Stadium, Rothwell Road, and the Langdon Park Sports and Community Centre, 7 Byron Street, during the period beginning on 1st April 1996 and ending with 31st December 1996 (article 2);

(iv) the cleaning of buildings by the Harrow London Borough Council so long as it is undertaken at any of the sites listed in the Schedule to the Order before 1st April 1996 (article 3);

(v) the repair and maintenance of vehicles by the Sutton London Borough Council before 1st July 1996, so long as it is undertaken in respect of any vehicle used by the Council in connection with any of their functions (article 4)

(vi) the repair and maintenance of vehicles by the joint committee defined in article 4(2), so long as it is undertaken in respect of any vehicle used by the committee in connection with any of their functions (article 4).
