Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations prescribe the forms of the entries to be made in the Parental Order Register pursuant to directions made by a court granting a parental order under section 30 of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1990 (c. 37). A parental order may be granted in respect of a child who is born as a result of a surrogacy arrangement and who is genetically related to at least one of the applicants for the order.

The Parental Order (Human Fertilisation and Embryology) Regulations 1994 (S. I. 1994/2767) make provision, by paragraph 4(a) of Schedule 1 to those Regulations, for a certified copy of an entry in the Register to be received as evidence of the date and place of birth of the child in all respects as if it were a certified copy of an entry in the Registers of Births.
