The Social Fund Cold Weather Payments (General) Amendment Regulations 1994

The Secretary of State for Social Security, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 138(2) and (4) and 175(1), (3) and (4) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act 1992(1) and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after agreement by the Social Security Advisory Committee that proposals in respect of these Regulations should not be referred to it(2), hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) These Regulations may be cited as the Social Fund Cold Weather Payments (General) Amendment Regulations 1994 and shall come into force on 1st November 1994.

(2) In these Regulations “the principal Regulations” means the Social Fund Cold Weather Payments (General) Regulations 1988(3).

Amendment of regulation 3 of the principal Regulations

2.  In regulation 3 of the principal Regulations (prescribed amount) for the amount “£6” there shall be substituted the amount “£7”.

Amendment of Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations

3.  In Schedule 1 to the principal Regulations (Post Office postcode areas assigned to designated National Climatological Message Stations)(4)—

(a)entries 5 (Bedford Royal Aircraft Establishment) and 30 (Honington) shall be omitted;

(b)for entries 4, 12, 39, 48, 57 and 62 there shall be respectively substituted the entries in Schedule 1 to these Regulations.

(c)the new entry 9A (Braemar) specified in Schedule 1 to these Regulations, shall be inserted after entry 9 (Bournemouth Airport).

Amendment of Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations

4.  In Schedule 2 to the principal Regulations (definition of Post Office postcode areas and sectors) in Table 1 there shall be added at the end the entries in Schedule 2 to these Regulations.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Social Fund (Cold Weather Payments) (General) Regulations 1988 No. 1724 by increasing with effect from 1st November 1994 the prescribed amount payable in respect of each period of cold weather from £6 to £7. They amend Schedule 1 to those Regulations making changes to the areas linked to national climatological message stations by way of Post Office postcodes and also make additions to Table 1 of Schedule 2 to those Regulations which identifies postcode areas by reference to maps produced by Datamaps Ltd.

A person may establish the current postcode for his address by contacting any post office.

These Regulations do not impose a charge upon businesses.
