The Education (Further Education Corporations) Order 1994

Whereas the Secretary of State for Wales has received a proposal from the Further Education Funding Council for Wales, made in accordance with section 51 of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992(1), for the establishment of a body corporate under section 16(1)(a) of that Act;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 16(1)(a), (4), and (5) and 17(2) of that Act, the Secretary of State for Wales hereby makes the following Order:

1.  This Order may be cited as the Education (Further Education Corporations) Order 1994 and shall come into force on 30th June 1994 (“the Commencement Date”).

2.  On the Commencement Date there shall be established a body corporate called “Coleg Menai” for the purpose of establishing and conducting from the operative date a new educational institution of that name (to be formed by the merger of Gwynedd Technical College and Coleg Pencraig).

3.  The “operative date”, in relation to the further education corporation established by this Order and the institution it is to conduct, shall be 1st August 1994.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order establishes a further education corporation under section 16(1) of the Further and Higher Education Act 1992 for the purpose of establishing and conducting Coleg Menai and appoints 1st August 1994 as the “operative date” for the purposes of Part I of that Act.
