Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

The Secretary of State granted to Insight Communications Guildford Limited on 13th October 1993 a licence under section 7 of the Telecommunications Act 1984 to run the telecommunication systems specified in Annex A to that licence in the Guildford, Aldershot and Woking area.

A copy of the licence was laid before Parliament on 12th April 1994. This Order designates those telecommunication systems as public telecommunication systems. Consequently, by virtue of section 9(3) of that Act, Insight Communications Guildford Limited will be a public telecommunications operator when the Order comes into force on 11th May 1994.

The licence replaces the licence granted to British Cable Services Limited on 8th May 1987 which has been revoked at the request of the licensee. The Public Telecommunication System Designation (British Cable Services Limited) Order 1987 (S.I. 1987/827) falls to be revoked as spent.

A copy of the licence may be obtained from the Office of Telecommunications, 50 Ludgate Hill, London, EC4M 7JJ.
