Citation, commencement, interpretation and consequential provisions1

These Regulations may be cited as the Sex Discrimination and Equal Pay (Remedies) Regulations 1993 and shall come into force on 22nd November 1993.

In these Regulations—

  • “an award under the sex discrimination legislation” means:

    1. a

      an award under the Equal Pay Act 19703 of arrears of remuneration or damages, or

    2. b

      an order under section 65(1)(b) of the Sex Discrimination Act 19754 for payment of compensation;

    but does not include an award of costs or expenses under rule 11 in the Schedule to the Industrial Tribunals (Rules of Procedure) Regulations 19855 or rule 11 in the Schedule to the Industrial Tribunals (Rules of Procedure) (Scotland) Regulations 1985 6, even if made in the same proceedings as an award under the sex discrimination legislation;

  • “the 1975 Act” means the Sex Discrimination Act 1975.

The amendments and repeals in the Schedule to these Regulations, which are consequential on regulation 2, shall have effect.
