This Order declares the Agreement on Customs Union and Co-operation between the European Economic Community and the Republic of San Marino, signed on 16th December 1991, to be a Community Treaty as defined in section 1(2) of the European Communities Act 1972. The Agreement promotes comprehensive co-operation between the Member States of the Community and the Council of the European Communities of the one part and the Republic of San Marino of the other part with the aim of contributing to the social and economic development of the Republic and the strengthening of relations between the parties. The Agreement establishes a customs union between the Republic of San Marino and the European Economic Community. The principal effect of declaring this Agreement to be a Community Treaty as so defined is to bring into play, in relation to it, the provisions of section 2 of the European Communities Act 1972 which provides for the implementation of treaties so specified.
