Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order makes provision for the modification of the Social Security Act 1975 and that part of the Child Benefit Act 1975 which makes provision for Child Benefit, so as to give effect to the Convention on social security and Protocol which were signed on behalf of the Government of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Government of Barbados on 7th January 1992.

The Convention and Protocol (set out in the Schedule) relate to reciprocity in sickness and maternity benefit, invalidity benefits, old age pension and survivors benefits, benefits for industrial accidents and diseases, guardians allowance and child benefit.
