(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988 (“the 1988 Regulations”) so that any consumer’s installation which complies with the provisions of the British Standard, Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671: 1992 (“BS 7671”) is deemed to comply with the requirements of regulation 27 of the 1988 Regulations as to safety. BS 7671 replaces the 16th Edition of the Regulations for Electrical Installations published by the Institution of Electrical Engineers in May 1991 and is identical to it. Copies of BS 7671 can be obtained from the British Standards Institution, Linford Wood, Milton Keynes and from the Institution of Electrical Engineers, PO Box 96, Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
An amendment is also made to regulation 32 of the 1988 Regulations, as amended by the Electricity Supply (Amendment) Regulations 1990, to make it clear that a supply of electricity may not be discontinued under that regulation for longer than necessary.
