The Stepps Bypass (M80) and Connecting Roads and the Glasgow Monklands Motorway (Stage I) (Speed Limit) Amendment Regulations 1992

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2)(a) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984((1)), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, having consulted such representative organisations as he thinks fit in accordance with section 134(2) of the said Act, hereby makes the following Regulations:

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Stepps Bypass (M80) and Connecting Roads and the Glasgow Monklands Motorway (Stage I) (Speed Limit) Amendment Regulations 1992 and shall come into force on 9th August 1992.

2.  In these Regulations “the 1975 Regulations ” means the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway (Stage I) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1975((2)).

3.  No person shall drive any motor vehicle on any length of special road specified in column 1 of the Schedule to these Regulations at a speed greater than that specified opposite to such length in column 2 of the Schedule.

4.  For paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Schedule to the 1975 Regulations there shall be substituted the following:

(1)aOn the main westbound carriageway of the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway from a point 672 yards or thereby east of the centre line of Castle Street to a point 517 yards or thereby east of the centre line of the footbridge at Sannox Gardens, a distance of 1590 yards or thereby.50 mph
(1)bOn the main westbound carriageway of the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway from a point 517 yards or thereby east of the centre line of the footbridge at Sannox Gardens to a point 38 yards or thereby east of the centre line of Cumbernauld Road, a distance of 1480 yards or thereby.60 mph
(2)aOn the main eastbound carriageway of the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway from a point 672 yards or thereby east of the centre line of Castle Street to a point 517 yards or thereby east of the centre line of the footbridge at Sannox Gardens, a distance of 1590 yards or thereby.50 mph
(2)bOn the main eastbound carriageway of the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway from a point 517 yards or thereby east of the footbridge at Sannox Gardens to a point 38 yards or thereby east of the centre line of Cumbernauld Road, a distance of 1480 yards or thereby.60 mph

1.  On the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass from a point on the City of Glasgow boundary 200 metres or thereby east of the Saughs Farms buildings near Millerston in the Region of Strathclyde to its junction with the roundabout at the A80 Gretna-Stranraer Glasgow-Stirling Road, a distance of 2.66 kilometres or thereby.

2.  On the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass from its junction with the roundabout at the A80 Gretna-Stranraer Glasgow-Stirling Road to a point on the City of Glasgow Boundary 200 metres or thereby east of the Saughs Farm buildings near Millerston in the Region of Strathclyde, a distance of 2.57 kilometres or thereby.

50 mph

3.  On the connecting road from its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass to its junction with the Kirkintilloch Link Road, a distance of 693 metres or thereby.

4.  On the connection road (Kirkintilloch Link Road) from its junction with the realigned Whitehill Road to its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass, a distance of 581 metres or thereby.

5.  On the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass from a point 276 metres east of the centre line of the footbridge over the M8-Monklands Motorway adjacent to Sannox Gardens to a point on the City of Glasgow boundary 200 metres or thereby east of the Saughs Farm buildings near Millerston in the region of Strathclyde, a distance of 4.33 kilometres or thereby

6.  On the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass from a point 183 metres east of the centre line of the footbridge crossing the M8 Monklands Motorway adjacent to Sannox Gardens to a point on the City of Glasgow boundary 200 metres or thereby east of the Saughs Farm building near Millerston in the Region of Strathclyde, a distance of 4.61 kilometres or thereby.

7.  On the connection road from its junction with Provan Road roundabout to its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass, a distance of 653 metres or thereby.

8.  On the connection road from its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass to its junction with Maxwelton Road roundabout, a distance of 350 metres or thereby.

9.  On the connecting road from its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass to its junction with the northmost roundabout at Robroyston Interchange, a distance of 685 metres or thereby.

10.  On the connection road from its junction with the southmost rounabout at Robroyston Interchange to its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass, a distance of 760 metres or thereby.

11.  On the connetion road from its junction with the northmost roundabout at Robroyston Interchange to its junction with the main eastbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass, a distance of 588 metres or thereby.

12.  On the connection road from its junction with the main westbound carriageway of the M80 Stepps Bypass to its junction with the southmost roundabout at Robroyston Interchange, a distance of 538 metres or thereby.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations impose a maximum speed limit of 50 mph on motor vehicles using the special road comprising the Stepps Bypass (M80) and connecting roads and amend the speed limit on certain lengths of special road described in the Schedule to the Glasgow-Monkland Motorway (Stage I) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1975.
