The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Instrument in exercise of powers conferred by section 106(3) of the Highways Act 1980(1), and now vested in him(2), and of all other enabling powers:

1.  The Lancashire County Council (New Shard Bridge) Scheme 1988 is hereby confirmed without modification.

2.  The said scheme as confirmed (hereinafter known as “the Scheme”) is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the Scheme with its accompanying plans are deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY; The North West Network Management Division, Department of Transport, Sunley Tower, Piccadilly Plaza, Manchester M1 4BE; and the Lancashire County Council at Christ Church Precinct, County Hall, Preston.

3.  The Scheme will become operative on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  This Instrument may be cited as the Lancashire County Council (New Shard Bridge) Scheme 1988 Confirmation Instrument 1991.

SCHEDULE TO THE SCHEMEPLANS AND SPECIFICATION FOR THE NEW SHARD BRIDGESPECIFICATION

Points of commencement and termination

From a point on the south bank of the River Wyre at Singleton in the Borough of Fylde approximately 52m north west of the north corner of plot 8092 and approximately 148m north east of the north east corner of plot 5784 shown on Ordnance Survey Sheet SD 3640 NE.

To a point on the north bank of the River Wyre at Hambleton in the Borough of Wyre approximately 88m south west of the north west corner of the bungalow known as “Blenheim” and approximately 170m south east of the south west corner of plot 8244 shown on Ordnance Survey Sheet SD 3641 SE.

Waterway span

Number of spans=9

Individual clear spans not less than 25m

Minimum overall span between abutment faces=243m.

Headway to be maintained

A minimum of 3.100 above the H.W.O.S.T. level of 4.400 AOD.

SCHEDULE TO THE INSTRUMENTLANCASHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL (NEW SHARD BRIDGE) SCHEME 1988

The Lancashire County Council (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) makes this Scheme in exercise of their powers under Section 106 of the Highways Act 1980 and of all other enabling powers:

1. The Council are hereby authorised to construct over the navigable waters of the River Wyre at Hambleton in the Borough of Wyre and at Singleton in the Borough of Fylde all in the County of Lancashire the bridge (in this Scheme called “New Shard Bridge”) specified in the Schedule to this Scheme as part of the highway, being a diversion of the Lancaster–Blackpool Road (A588) which they propose to construct from a point on Shard Road near Shard Bridge Farm at Singleton in the Borough of Fylde to a point on Shard Road near its junction with Bull Park Lane and Shard Lane at Hambleton in the Borough of Wyre all in the said County.

2. This Scheme may be cited as “the Lancashire County Council (New Shard Bridge) Scheme 1988”.

The Common Seal of the Lancashire Council was hereunto affixed in pursuance of a resolution passed at a meeting of the Highways and Transportation Committee of the County Council duly convened and held on the 17th day of September 1986.
