3. There shall be added after Schedule 2 to the principal Order a new Schedule as follows:—
Article 1(2)
The Document is amended as follows:—
(1) in the list of study units set out in the general introduction to the programme of study for key stage 3;
(a)for the study unit entitled “18. Wales in industrial Britain c. 1760 to c. 1960” there shall be substituted the following:—
“18. Wales in industrial Britain c. 1760 to c. 1914”, and
for the study unit entitled “27. Europe and the world c. 1900 to c. 1960” there shall be substituted the following:—
“27. Britain, Europe and the World c. 1900 to c. 1960”.
after the instructions “Pupils must study units 16, 17, 18 sequentially commencing with unit 16. Pupils must also study two of units 19 to 26 and units 27 to 28” there shall be added:—
“Pupils must study unit 27 after they have studied unit 18”;
(2) for the title “Wales in industrial Britain c. 1760 to c. 1960” in study unit 18 of key stage 3 there shall be substituted the following title:—
“Wales in industrial Britain c. 1760 to c. 1914”;
(3) for study unit 27 of key stage 3 there shall be substituted the study unit set out in the Part II below.
Pupils should be introduced to aspects of the history of Wales, Britain and Europe in the 20th century in a world context. They should gain an understanding of some of the main political, economic and social influences which have shaped the world in which they live.
The focus of the unit should be on the following themes:
international conflict and co-operation,
the emergence of new nations,
technological, social and cultural change.
Pupils should be taught about:
* The global impact of war and the international search for peace, as illustrated by either World War I and the League of Nations or World War II and the United Nations.
* The transition from European Empires and the emergence of new nations, as illustrated by either the British Empire or the French Empire and a particular country, such as India or Algeria.
and either
* The impact of the transport revolution, especially in Wales and other parts of Britain, eg on work, employment, lifestyle, environment, trade and travel.
or
* The growth of the mass media and their impact on regional, national and popular cultures, especially in Wales and other parts of Britain.".”
