PUBLIC PASSENGER TRANSPORT

The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 17(2) of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989(1) and of all other enabling powers, hereby makes the following Order:—
1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 (Commencement No. 4) Order 1990.
2. The provisions of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 specified in the Schedule to this Order shall come into force on 1st April 1991.

This Order brings into force the provisions of the Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989 specified in the Schedule to the Order. The principal effect of the bringing into force of these provisions is to abolish the separate licensing of drivers of heavy goods vehicles under Part IV of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c. 52) and public service vehicles under section 22 of the Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 (c. 14) and to provide for the licensing of the drivers of such vehicles as large goods vehicles and passenger-carrying vehicles under Part III of the 1988 Act supplemented by the new Part IV of that Act contained in Schedule 2 to the 1989 Act.
