Title, commencement and interpretation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the General Drainage Charges (Anglian Region) Order 1990 and shall come into force on 15th February 1990.

(2) In this Order—

“the Act” means the Land Drainage Act 1976; and

“the quotient”, in relation to a general drainage charge raised by the National Rivers Authority for a local flood defence district for any year, means the quotient ascertained for the purposes of that charge in pursuance of section 49(1) of the Act, read with the Drainage Charges Regulations 1990(1), (which specify the method of ascertaining the amount of such a charge).

2.   For the purposes of ascertaining the amount per hectare at which a general drainage charge to be raised under section 48(1) of the Act (2) may be raised by the National Rivers Authority in the local flood defence districts specified in the first column of the Schedule to this Order for any time after 31st March 1990, the number by which the quotient is to be multiplied as well as being multiplied by 1p shall, in relation to each of the said local flood defence districts, be the number shown opposite the name of each district in the second column of the said Schedule.
