1.  These Regulations may be cited as the “Zebra” Pedestrian Crossings (Amendment) Regulations 1990 and shall come into force on 5th October 1990.

2.  The “Zebra” Pedestrian Crossings Regulations 1971(1) shall be amended in accordance with the following provisions of these Regulations.

3.  In Part II of Schedule 2 after paragraph 3 there shall be added—

4.  Subject to paragraphs 5 and 6, a globe may be fitted with—

(a)a backing board designed to improve the conspicuity of the globe;

(b)a shield designed to prevent or reduce light from the globe shining into adjacent properties; or

(c)such a board and shield.

5.  If a backing board or shield is fitted to a globe it shall—

(a)be firmly secured;

(b)not prevent any driver of a vehicle proceeding towards the zebra crossing in question from seeing the globe; and

(c)not constitute a danger to any user of the road.

6.  Any backing board shall be coloured black and may have a white border.
