Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Feeding Stuffs Regulations 1988. Regulation 3 makes a number of minor amendments to the body of the principal Regulations, and regulation 4 amends Schedules 1, 4 and 7 thereto, which relate respectively to the contents of the statutory statement to be given by the seller to the purchaser on the sale of any feeding stuff, to permitted additives in feeding stuffs and to the control of certain protein sources.

The amendments to Schedules 4 and 7 to the principal Regulations implement three directives of the European Economic Community:–

1.  Commission Directive 88/228/EEC (OJ No L101, 20.4.88, p.30) amending the Annexes to Council Directive 70/524/EEC concerning additives in feeding stuffs, (regulation 4(2) and (4));

2.  Commission Directive 88/483/EEC (OJ No L237, 27.8.88, p.39) amending the Annexes to Council Directive 70/524/EEC concerning additives in feeding stuffs, (regulation 4(3) and (5));

3.  Commission Directive 88/485/EEC (OJ No L239, 30.8.88, p.36) amending the Annex to Council Directive 82/471/EEC concerning certain products used in animal nutrition, (regulation 4(6)).
