The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Instrument in exercise of powers conferred by section 16 of the Highways Act 1980(1) and now vested in him(2) and all other enabling powers:

1.  The City of Manchester (M56 North Cheshire Motorway) (Bowdon to Wythenshawe Airport Link Road Section) Connecting Roads Scheme 1988 is hereby confirmed with modification.

2.  The said Scheme as confirmed (hereinafter referred to as “the Scheme”) is set out in the Schedule hereto and copies of the Scheme, as modified, with its accompanying plan are deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, 43 Marsham St, London SW1P 3PY and at the offices of the Manchester City Council, Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester.

3.  The Scheme will come into force on the date on which notice that it has been confirmed is first published in accordance with paragraph 1 of Schedule 2 to the Highways Act 1980.

4.  This Instrument may be cited as the City of Manchester (M56 North Cheshire Motorway) (Bowdon to Wythenshawe Airport Link Road Section) Connecting Roads Scheme 1988 Confirmation Instrument 1989.

THE SCHEDULETHE CITY OF MANCHESTER (M56 NORTH CHESHIRE MOTORWAY) (BOWDON TO WYTHENSHAWE–AIRPORT LINK ROAD SECTION) CONNECTING ROADS SCHEME 1988

The Manchester City Council make this Scheme in exercise of their powers under Section 16 of the Highways Act 1980 and of all other enabling powers:—

1.  For the purpose of connecting the Motorway with the new access road at the places stated in the Schedule hereto, the Council are authorised to provide special roads for the use of traffic of classes I and II of the classes of traffic set out in Schedule 4 to the Highways Act 1980 along the routes described in the Schedule hereto (these special roads being in the Scheme referred to as “the Connecting Roads”).

2.  The centre lines of the Connecting Roads are indicated by heavy black lines on the deposited plan.

3.  In this Scheme—

(i) “the Motorway”

means the M56, North Cheshire Motorway (Bowdon to Wythenshawe–Airport Link Road Section);

(ii) “the new access road”

means the access road and roundabout from Outwood Lane and Ringway Road West to the Airport Terminal 2;

(iii) “the deposited plan”

means the plan numbered A3/7309/49/67 marked “The City of Manchester (M56, North Cheshire Motorway) (Bowdon to Wythenshawe–Airport Link Road Section) Connecting Road Scheme 1988.” sealed with the Common Seal of the Council and deposited at the offices of the Manchester City Council, Town Hall, Albert Square, Manchester, M60 2LA. A certified copy is also deposited at the Department of Transport, Sunley Tower, Piccadilly Plaza, Manchester, M1 4BE.

4.  This Scheme may be cited as “The City of Manchester (M56, North Cheshire Motorway) (Bowdon to Wythenshawe–Airport Link Road Section) Connecting Roads Scheme 1988.”

SCHEDULETHE ROUTES OF SPECIAL ROADS, TO CONNECT THE M56 MOTORWAY WITH THE ACCESS ROAD AND ROUNDABOUT FROM OUTWOOD LANE AND RINGWAY ROAD WEST TO THE AIRPORT TERMINAL 2, AT RINGWAY IN THE CITY OF MANCHESTER IN THE COUNTY OF GREATER MANCHESTER

The routes of the Connecting Roads (to connect the Motorway with the new access road and roundabout) are—

(i)

a route leading from the eastbound cariageway of the Motorway to the new access road (given reference number 1 on the deposited plan), and

(ii)

a route leading from the new access road to the westbound carriageway of the Motorway (given reference number 2 on the deposited plan).
