1. The length of trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order and shown by broad striped hatching on the deposited plan shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road as from 16th May 1988.
2. In this Order —
(a)“the deposited plan” means the plan numbered HA 10/2E/280, marked “The A405 North Orbital Road (Long Lane Roundabout — A412) and Connecting Roads Detrunking Order 1988” signed by authority of the Secretary of State and deposited at the Department of Transport, Romney House, Marsham Street, London SW1P 3PY;
(b)“principal road” as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads, and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and
(c)“the Trunk Road” means the North Orbital Road (A405)
3. This Order shall come into force on 16th May 1988 and may be cited as the A405 North Orbital Road (Long Lane Roundabout — A412) and Connecting Roads Detrunking Order 1988.

The length of the Trunk Road ceasing to be a Trunk Road is that length of the Trunk Road which extends from and including Long Lane Roundabout at the junction of the Trunk Road with Long Lane at Heronsgate south-eastwards to and including the roundabout (with slip roads thereto) at the junction of the Trunk Road with the A412, all in the County of Hertfordshire; a route of about 1.11 kilometres measured along that length of road.
