The Meters (Certification) (Fees) Regulations 1988

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 50A(4) of the Schedule to the Electric Lighting (Clauses) Act 1899(1) as incorporated with the Electricity Act 1947(2), hereby makes the following Regulations:—

Citation and commencement

1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Meters (Certification) (Fees) Regulations 1988 and shall come into force on 1st April 1988.

Meter certification fees

2.—(1) The fee to be paid to the Secretary of State by the holder of an authorisation under section 50A(2) of the 1899 Schedule toward administrative expenses incurred by him by virtue of section 50A of the 1899 Schedule shall be 15 pence for each meter certified.

(2) For the purposes of this Regulation —

“the 1899 Schedule” means the Schedule to the Electric Lighting (Clauses) Act 1899 as incorporated with the Electricity Act 1947; and

“meter certified” means a meter certified under section 50 of the 1899 Schedule.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations apply to persons who manufacture or repair meters and who are authorised by the Secretary of State for Energy under section 50A(2) of the Schedule to the Electric Lighting (Clauses) Act 1899 to certify, in accordance with section 50 of that Schedule, meters manufactured or repaired by them.

The Regulations provide for the holders of such authorisations to pay fees to the Secretary of State towards administrative expenses incurred by him by virtue of section 50A of the Schedule. The sum payable is 15 pence for each meter certified.
