BETTING, GAMING AND LOTTERIES

The Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) Order 1987

In pursuance of paragraph 20(1A) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963(1) I hereby make the following Order:

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 (Variation of Fees) Order 1987 and shall come into force on 2nd March 1987.

(2) This Order shall not extend to Scotland.

2.  Paragraph 20(1) (grant or renewal of permit or licence) of Schedule 1 (bookmakers` permits, betting agency permits and betting office licences) to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 shall be amended as follows—

(a)in paragraph (b) (grant of betting agency permit) for the words “five pounds” there shall be substituted “£100”; and

(b)for paragraph (c) (renewal of bookmaker`s permit or betting agency permit or grant or renewal of betting office licence) there shall be substituted—

(c)in the case of the grant of a betting office licence, £80;

(d)in the case of the renewal of a bookmaker`s permit or betting agency permit, £12;

(e)in the case of the renewal of a betting office licence, £15;.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order amends the fees payable in England and Wales to the appropriate authority under paragraph 20(1) of Schedule 1 to the Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Act 1963 for the grant and renewal of betting agency permits and betting office licences and the renewal of bookmakers` permits. The fee for the grant of a betting agency permit is increased from £5 to £100 (Article 2(a)) and for the grant of a betting office licence from £1 to £80 (Article 2(b)). The fee for renewal of a bookmaker`s permit or betting agency permit is increased from £1 to £12 and of a betting office licence from £1 to £15 (Article 2(b)).
