The Secretary of State for the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 68(1) of the General Rate Act 1967(1), and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:—

1.  This 0rder may be cited as the New Valuation Lists 0rder 1987 and shall come into force on the day following the day on which it is approved by a resolution of each House of Parliament.

2.  1990 is specified as a year in which new valuation lists are to come into force in each rating area in England and Wales.

Explanatory Note

(This note is not part of the Order)

This 0rder specifies 1990 as a year in which new valuation lists are to come into force in rating areas in England and Wales. The new lists have effect from 1st April in that year.

The Secretary of State has power to specify, by 0rder, a class of hereditaments to be revalued for the purposes of the new valuation lists. An 0rder was made on the same date as this 0rder specifying hereditaments other than dwelling houses, private garages and private storage premises as the class of hereditaments which are to be revalued for the purposes of the new lists. It is subject to annulment in pursuance of a resolution of either House of Parliament.
